Chapter Three: Iris..? Succulent?

You like flowers? Me certainly likes it Ho Ho

Just so to say, there's new video tutorial on my channel. It's about Iris made from paper. I'm self colouring the paper with two ways. One with soft pastle, others with acrylic paint. All painted both sided of the paper. I rather self colouring than using colour paper, because it has that touch that makes the detail more real (?) Btw both colouring methods has it own feels results. You can choose whatever suited you.

Anyway, I'm not writing about the Iris this time. It's about.......... succulent *la la*

I always fond of succulent. Their miniature size, ermm..real life miniature not the handmade one.. It's just neat and cute. And those mini gardens of succulents? 😍

So I tried making succulents from styrofoam. I though the texture and the puffy of styrofoam suits together. But I don't have the punch that has the leaf shape..and I'm lazy to think cutting the pattern one by one. I mean if there's one plant then it's okay..but do I wanted to stop at one? Ha ha

Then this idea came. I made a cutter from leftover tin foil, shaped it like the plant pattern. The concept is like cookie cutter and I just hover the cutter over candle light before put it into the foam. Yup, just put it. You don't even have to push any because the foam melt like an ice being torch by 100 torchlight. Maybe even faster *LOL* and thats the problem.

The foam melted too much it just shrinked too tiny from the cutter. Much worse if the cutter not hot enough, it just cut halfway and stuck on the foam..hmm, I mean..glued on the foam ~~~~~~ T___________T

I made two cutter before. One is smaller. Surprisingly I tried the smaller one first and it turn out well. Just need to loosen it a little before pushing it out because it stick on the cutter. On bigger one..none turn out well. I need more experiments and practice on how long the heat needed

Anyway, the leftover from the experiments. I picked the ones that has 'forgiveable' shape then paint it with green and glued it together. Turn out it's not that bad. It got thickness from usually need to made out from clay, and looks better than the paper method one that looks flat from side.

I manually trim a little to get rid the rough side from sticking on cutter. Lastly..It's still not success from the making process. Gotta think about easier way to do or else I need to get the hang of the heat problem.

Btw, here's the video on Iris tutorial. You can also made other kinds of flower using the same way. Just different petal punch and different way of rolling the petal, depends on the type.

As soon as I get the hang of the succulent, I'll update the post next time.

Happy planting!
